If you are reading this, it probably means that you are concerned about your weight issues. You may be interested in losing weight (“How weight is lost”) or in gaining weight (“How can we gain weight”). These topics are discussed in depth throughout this website in an easy to understand, no-nonsense style. To browse the articles in this website, please select your area of interest. The areas of interest “How weight is lost” and “how can we gain weight” are displayed in the Category section on the right side of this page.

To begin, I can assure you that the weight issues for every individual are unique. What works for one person may not work for another. Maybe you have already tried some strategies that have not worked well for you. Do not be discouraged! Although common sense principles cannot be ignored (To lose weight, you will need to eat fewer calories than your body will burn; to gain weight, you will need to eat more calories than your body will burn), there are many additional factors that must be considered in order to reach your weight goal.

You will need to identify those factors that are unique to you, and are also related to your weight issues. Some of these factors may be: life style, personality, metabolism, bone structure, eating and drinking habits, culture, exercises, social activities, etc. You will also need to ask yourself some serious questions: Am I willing to alter individual behaviors that are affecting my weight (temporarily; permanently)? Can I be more disciplined? We will explore these questions, and many others, in this website.

On the other hand, some factors may be beyond our control to change. That is why you hear comments such as “I eat very little and do not lose any weight.”, or, “I eat a lot and have never been able to gain weight; must be my genes.”  For these individuals, it may be a little harder to achieve their weight goals, but not impossible. Sometimes we must fight against our own metabolism. First we must understand ourselves and identify our unique weight issues. We will explore all the options available and will recommend alternatives that fit each individual.
